A New Grandson

Let me introduce to you our newest addition to the family, grandchild number 5…. Noah Steven Hertzler.

With the marriage of Keith and Alivia on April 5, 2013, we also were blessed to welcome a new grandson, Noah, Alivia’s son.

This little fella is winning our hearts. His eyes sparkle with delight when he sees us and he calls us “grandpa and grandma Hertzler” always adding the Hertzler. He chatters nonstop about the cows, tractors, trucks, or whatever else is on his mind. He is thriving on life in the country and all the equipment “toys” of his new daddy.

When Keith arrived at Alivia’s home for their first date, Noah came running to the door and squealed “daddy”, totally embarrassing his mom!!! Noah’s daddy had left his life when he was 6-months old and he has never known a father’s love or ever called anyone daddy. Keith and Noah are forming a special father-son bond.

Welcome, Noah, we love you and are so glad you are a part of our family.

Note: Noah is not on the wedding pictures. He was suppose to be at the wedding-we picked him up from preschool and took him along. He was so proud of the little tux he was to wear but he decided to “act up” and it soon became obvious it was better for him to be taken home by his baby sitter. It was too overwhelming and confusing for him. He became very insecure and wanted his mommy.

We had Aunt Osie “skyped” into the service so she could hear it. Then daddy was able to talk to his beloved twin.

They talked about seeing each other in glory and then daddy spontaneously sang a song about heaven to her and Harry chimed in. It was precious.

Smug

Our grandson, Ryan, who is 7 was at the farm this weekend and he learned to “drive” the golf cart. Maybe a more accurate description is “steer” the golf cart while I pushed the gas pedal. He was so proud of himself. It was amazing how many places he needed to go and things he needed to see and of course he had to drive there and take his eager passengers with him. At one point I looked at him and he was totally zoned out in his grown-up world. His hands intently gripped the steering wheel as he stared straight ahead with his face tilted slightly upward and a smile that wrapped all the way around his head. His face just glowed with joy. I would have loved to have captured that moment with my camera. It was so precious. One word just said it all-“smug”.

10 More Years

Today I asked my father-in-law, who is 94, what he thinks when he wakes up in the morning? Do you think that this could be your last day?

Without missing a beat he said, “No, I am going to live 10 more years. I think, what am I going to do today? How am I going to get it done? Who is going to help me? What do I need to get it done?”

This man lives on a 40 acre farm and oversees his horse boarding stable. This past week he built a new barb wire fence, with help. He drives the skid loader, tinkers in his shop and is constantly brain storming about his next project.

Ten more years…he just might make it. Longevity seems to be a Hertzler trait!

93 and Still Counting

What fun it is to celebrate a birthday. It is a special day for the individual as they are the guest of honor, basking in the attention of family and/or friends on that one special day out of the year-their birthday. And it is also another numbered mile-marker, with everyone celebrating the completion of another year.

Mama Hertzler has reached her 93rd and Daddy will be 94 this fall. What an achievement!!! They still live independently and are enjoying reasonably good health. They have their “old age” challenges but then don’t we all?

Sunday we had a little party for her. Mama seemed quite pleased and everyone had a good time. Below are some pictures.
